Jacobstow press release 11.2.09

A public meeting was held on 8th December 2008 at which a Steering Group was formed to establish a Parish Plan for Jacobstow, North Cornwall. Despite the hurdles of Christmas holidays and some daunting weather, the Steering Group has been able to hold three preliminary meetings.
Our first tasks were to secure funding for the initiative and to ensure that parishioners and local groups were involved and were aware of what such a plan entails.

To let people know about the plan we have distributed and displayed an open letter on notice boards and in the Church porch. The local Post office and shop at Wainhouse Corner have been kind enough to hold a supply of these together with a suggestion box on their counter for the past two weeks. In total some 110 letters have been distributed and a smattering of suggestions have been received. The box has now been removed but we are happy to continue to receive suggestions about any thing in Jacobstow Parish which concerns you. These suggestions can refer to things you would like to see happen as well as things you may want to change. We held our latest Steering Group meeting on 9th February and several of those who have been interested in progress volunteered to attend this meeting. Jacobstow is a wide spread Parish so the steering group has decided to use as many means as possible to ensure that everyone in the Parish is well informed about progress. To this end we hope to place a brief report of each of our meetings in this newspaper and you can also follow progress and comment at www.TransitionNC.org under ‘Jacobstow Parish Plan’

At our last meeting we welcomed four new parishioners and so there were eleven persons present, with two apologies. The Steering Group members present were Doreen Turner (Clerk to Parish Council), Jeanne Gimblett, Bob Reason (Parish Councillor), Peter Hambleton, Paul Sousek, Mike Quance. Others present were Mary Carter, Mick Carter, Mike Dowling and Alan Holloway.

Our Cornwall County Councillor, Mr Bob Booker, attended the meeting to give us information with regard to the progress of our funding application to Cornwall County Council for £1000 from the Small Community Fund. We were also pleased to hear that we have been granted £500 from North Cornwall District Council. While the total funding may be somewhat less than that which has been available to parishes who have already undertaken their plans, the Steering Group are determined tha it will not affect the ability of Jacobstow to produce a Parish Plan which will reflect the wishes and concerns of the parishioners.

Our funding will be held and administered by the Jacobstow Parish Council. We were pleased to hear reports of enthusiasm and interest from the local Primary School and to welcome a representative of the younger members of our Parish onto the Steering Group. Our intention to liaise with local groups will continue and we will hold our next Steering Group meeting at 7.30 pm on 16th March. If you have suggestions or ideas for the Steering Group these my be given to any member of the group or you can e-mail your comments to JacobstowParishPlan@gmail.com
