22Mar2011: Ultra-Low Carbon Farming in Parliament

Ultra-Low Carbon Farming: Urban and Rural Case Studies

Dr Robert Biel (University College London)
Paul Sousek (Cottage Farm, Cornwall)

Tuesday March 22nd - 6.30pm

Committee Room 10, House of Commons

To be followed by Q & A

This meeting will bring together two pioneering agriculturalists who will share their experience of ultra-low carbon food production. Dr Robert Biel (UCL) will present on his work at the UCL Developmental Planning Unit's Urban Agriculture research unit. Dr Biel also runs the Abundance project, which has set up productive food gardens on low-income housing estates in South London. Paul Sousek produces beef, lamb and vegetables on Cottage Farm in Cornwall. The farm uses a minimum of fossil fuels, with electricity and fuel for machinery and delivery vans produced renewably on site.

And here is a recoding of my presentation at the House of Commons on 22nd March 2011.

Unfortunately, the slides themselves are not visible, which makes it a little more difficult to follow. As I talk I normally assume that the audience can read the slides at the same time - and you will hear some audience reactions to the slides, rather than my remarks.

You can always come to one of our Open Day at Cottage Farm, where I cover much the same ground and you get to touch and feel the equipment and even go for a farm walk! (Book here:
