Who are the fat cats in Cornwall?

Cornwall Council paid more than 30 officials more than £100,000 a year, according to newly published figures.

Kevin Lavery, chief executive at Cornwall Council, cost the taxpayer the most by taking home almost £239,000 a year after employers' pension contributions were added.

Currently there are 150 council employees earning more than £50,000 a year, adding at least £7.5m to the payroll.

The council has a budget of £1.2bn, with more than 22,500 staff.

According to the figures, more than £438m was spent on staff wages, providing services and maintaining council buildings.

Council chiefs refused to reveal how much individuals earned, although council documents showed how much each of the top posts cost.

"In places like Windsor and Maidenhead councils are not only publishing what senior staff earn, but also what amounts from as low as £500 being spent on.

Dick Cole, leader of Mebyon Kernow, said people in Cornwall would be "very concerned" over sums paid out.

The position of director for support services costs £231,274, communities £167,160, planning and economy £155,220, children, schools and families £130,000, adult social care £143,280, assistant chief executive £131,452 and legal and democratic services £107,266. ...

As part of the Government's budget review, the authority has been ordered to make a more than £13m worth of cuts.

How can it possibly be justified to pay any of these officers more than the PM. £100K should be an absolute limit and anything over £50K should be halved. Lets pay Cornish salaries to Cornwall Council emploees.
