Community waste and recycling forum for Cornwall

New community waste and recycling forum for mid Cornwall

1 July 2010

People living in mid Cornwall are being invited to join a new community consultation group that will help Cornwall Council develop its future waste collection and recycling services.

Julian German, Cornwall Council’s Cabinet member for Waste Management, Climate Change and Historic Environment, said: “We’re looking for enthusiastic residents from the former Carrick and Restormel areas to act as a sounding board and tell us how they think waste collection and recycling services could be improved.

“The group will meet quarterly and could get involved in everything from understanding service costs and trialling new containers to attending roadshows and helping us explain our plans to the public.

“We need around 50 volunteers, and we’re looking for residents who provide a representative cross section of backgrounds, ages, gender, accommodation types and locations.”

The forum will act as a pilot, building on the successful work of the former Carrick Public Waste Management Group. If the scheme works well in mid Cornwall, it could be rolled out to east and west Cornwall in the future.

Anyone in mid Cornwall interested in joining the waste and recycling forum, should ring 01872 224371 or email sclark@cornwall.gov.uk for an application form. The closing date for applications is 31 July, and successful applicants will be invited to the first forum meeting in September, which will be held at Kingsley Village in Fraddon.
