Cornwall Council doing much better ...

Our Cornwall Council, with significant help from our Transition Movement, are apparently performing much better:

Cornwall Council takes first steps to becoming world leader in tackling climate change

Exciting proposals to create the UK’s first solar energy park and first local Council run wind farms and to establish Cornwall as a rural centre for electric car transport are among the innovative projects being developed by Cornwall Council as part of its new Green Cornwall Programme.

The programme, which was officially launched at County Hall, Truro today, sets out the Council’s aim of becoming one of the leading areas in the world in successfully tackling climate change and contains a range of exciting projects designed to help the county to reduce its carbon footprint.
Outlining details of the programme, Julian German, the Council’s Cabinet member for the environment, and Green Cornwall Programme Director Steve Cirell said that the Council was committed to becoming a leader in developing the green agenda.
“Work is already underway on creating a low carbon economy in Cornwall ...“

Cornwall is already using its natural resources to generate energy. Not only is it leading the south west in producing renewable energy with eight wind farms, it is also involved in the development of projects to harness wind energy and research to extract heat and power from geothermal sources.

... “These include the creation of a solar energy farm and the development of wind farms on Council owned land.
“Cornwall would be the first local authority in the country to develop such projects which would generate income for the Council by selling surplus energy at the same time as helping us to reduce our carbon footprint”.
