Post Office consultation

Just when you thought there were likely to be no more
consultations over the future of the Post Office Network up pops another - but this time probably really quite signiificant, if local communities wish to retain what's left of the decimated service in Cornwall. In Falmouth, post office presence has been reduced to two offices only, whilst in Truro there seems to be only one left - the main post office at High Cross. These offices are now inundated with customers - many of whom would have used local, more convenient and environmentally-friendly offices near to their homes - most of which are now closed forcing customers to get in their cars and drive to offices which are less busy to access services.

The most ludicrous example of this is some Falmouthians travelling to Mabe Burnthouse.

The latest consultation gives the opportunity to support the expansion of financial services in Post Offices : new ideas include a weekly budgeting account, a current account, a children's saving account, business accounts, mortgages and, significantly, closer links to credit unions........which could as a result to be accessible to all

If you feel this is important why not, at the same time, lobby for the return of payment of TV licensing; Car Tax from all offices, and the opportunity to pay all utility bills free of charge ? (thankfully Cornwall Council has made the payment of Council Tax at all post offices a free service to all )

Anyone wanting to make a representation can do so by visiting
