Transition Lostwithiel e-news November 2014

Welcome to November's Edition of Transition Lostwithiel e-news... which will enlighten and inform you this month... there’s is so much going on that it’s a long one!!!!

And will be the last one of 2014... have a great green Yuletide:

- Star Raffle: dinner for 2 at Bedruthan Hotel who kindly donated a 3 course dinner with a bottle of wine and coffee, after Lostwithiel Jazz Café... on the road... played at their Mid-century Vintage Fair
- Nibbles at the Speakeasy

The Business Group has arranged to work with artists from ARTiculate for this year's Dickensian Night.

THE BIG MAKE Duchy Nursery have generously offered their workshop for the artists to build BIG lanterns with a Victorian theme that will be paraded on Dickensian Night and then displayed throughout the festive period. The artists will be building the structure then volunteers will spend a day covering it with tissue. If you want to get involved, get in touch!

FREE LANTERN WORKSHOP Sunday Dec 7th 10-4 - a chance for anyone to build individual lanterns for the parade on Dickensian Night. It's FREE but spaces are limited and you must book a place - email or ring 01208 873242.

This is the nearest pool but others in the area are also involved.

The fire brigade have sited a new collection bank just by the Fire Station in the Cattle Market Car Park next to the Fire Station... accepts allsorts of items...

- Have started a new Community Rug depicting the tree of life... come and have a go or a prod!
- This friendly group meets every Tuesday morning at the Centre 10-12.30 £2 donation towards hire of room
- Start your own design
- Be inspired, the ultimate re-use... always happy to show the skill of rag rugging and encourage passing on the knowledge... always in need of blankets, fleeces to work with.

After November the textile hub will become a monthly evening session... more details in the Spring.

And having to move venue at the very last minute The BIG JUMBLE Sale was a great success and to date has raised over £1200... the residue of articles went to the Cornwall Hospice for their shop outlets...

It was a great chance to showcase what the Centre is all about to the Bishop of Truro...the Devon and Cornwall Food Association Hub at the Centre was launched.
SO WHAT COULD THIS MEAN TO LOSTWITHIEL AND SURROUNDING AREAS... well, this means that if you are providing food for a charity... to raise funds... or a community food event such as third Friday... then all you need to do is register with Anna Hoyle at the food hub and you can have any suitable food you need for your cooking - yes FREE - all sorts of store cupboard supplies and fresh which would have otherwise become waste

Produce Market at the Centre
Goes from strength to strength... such a choice of produce... where else could you go and buy sushi / Cornish fenugreek gouda / Cornish smoked mackerel / vegetables grown up the road / cider vinegar / meat / pies /bread /cakes/ plants and so much more ..phew .. all in the same place... if it's the week when you are putting your recycling out then it's the Produce Market 10-1pm.

Hand in Hand update
The project has been a success with more than 8 fully equipped boxes for a new born joining the convoy. Many thanks to the Community Centre for being the communication point for this and providing information, collection facilities and free promotion in the newsletter.

Membership to belong to LCC... HELP TOWARDS THE ROOF FUND, HAVE A VOTE IN THE AGM, a say in what happens at the Centre and reduced room hire... join at Reception soon.
Centre AGM is in December.

Tree Arboretum
November is the perfect time to plant trees... to give them time to get established before the Winter ... the trees which residents have requested at the Plant Swap this year are now being delivered.

BIG POPPY KNIT/STITCH/CROCHET project at 2 Quay Street
- come and make your poppy and more for the window
- packs with the patterns and all you need to knit or crochet a poppy or more
- pop in anytime and sit and make
- funds raised go towards ‘Lost in Play’ and a donation to The British Legion
