July e-news from Transition Lostwithiel

Welcome to July e-news :

"Books in the Bistro" on Monday 7th July - come along to the Community Centre, have a drink at the bar in the Long Room while you browse the selection of second hand books and wait for your wood-fired pizza to be cooked by Kernow Forno. Don't forget the delicious home-made cakes from the Centre Cafe!

Charity Day kicks off Carnival Week on Sunday 20th July - a great family day out on King George V playing field. Transition Lostwithiel will have a stall with plants for swapping, alongside the Community Centre who will be bringing some of their sports equipment onto the field.

Swishes will be held at the Community Centre on the last Saturday of the month throughout the summer from 10.30 - 12 - next one July 26th. For £2 you can swap items of clothing from your wardrobe that you no longer wear, don’t like or don't fit and pick up clothes that you will wear, do like and will wear!

The poppies grown for the Memorial Garden to commemorate the centenary of the start of WWI have suffered from slugs - if you have any spare poppy plants please get in touch.

Plant Swap isn't just about plants - share your produce, swap during the summer if you have a glut of eggs, produce or honey etc. Saturday morning in the Churchyard.

This year artist Reg Payn will be helping people in Lostwithiel design and build a huge lantern (or lanterns!) for Dickensian Night. You can learn to work with willow and help create a spectacular lantern for the parade. If you want to get involved contact the Business Group who organise Dickensian Night.

Make History... Town Tree Arboretum
Make History and apply for a tree - Transition Lostwithiel is setting up a Town Tree Arboretum. If you live in town and would like a tree (preferably fruit or nut) for your garden, then join the growing(!) list at the Plant Swap... at the end of the season Transition Lostwithiel will provide a tree for you and it will become part of the register of town trees forming a corridor for wildlife and helping to prevent flooding.

Many thanks to all those who have donated wool for Phili-knits and materials to Ragged Edges it is much appreciated. We are in the process of making children's dungarees with donated materials and patterns.
