Wadebridge Renewable Energy Network Needs Your Vote

Some of you will already be aware that WREN made it through to the final round of the River Cottage/British Gas Energyshare initiative. We are in with a chance, with your help, of winning £85,000 + to fit solar panels on Wadebridge CP School roof as follows:

Wadebridge Renewable Energy Network is one step closer to winning £100,000 for their exciting community project. WREN, which has recently been awarded the 2011 Green Energy Award as ‘Best Community Initiative’, is now competing against a dozen other groups in the UK to receive a share of £500,000 awarded by Energyshare. All they need is your vote in helping to secure the money.

WREN, which aspires to become a community energy powered town, would invest the £85 - 100k prize money in a community solar allotment scheme. This will allow residents to own solar panels remotely instead of on their roof, even if they don't have the luxury of owning a south-facing roof.

The panels would be installed on Wadebridge Community Primary School roof, which would not only deliver free electricity to the school, but also provide a focus for energy-related projects. This reduced energy bill will save the school a projected £3,300 annually, which will go towards further energy and environmental programmes within the school.

Once the solar allotment has been installed, WREN will offer panels to the local community to invest in, which will release capital for the WREN community fund. The process can then be replicated elsewhere, creating more opportunities, increasing energy awareness and generating even more money for our community fund. The seed grant from Energyshare will therefore be the catalyst in helping WREN become financially stable and self-sufficient.

The closing date for voting is 3rd December. Each and every vote counts! What you need to do to help is simply log in as a supporter of WREN on the EnergyShare website, and click for a greener Wadebridge.
