5th Dec, The Wave march, London

With a history of taking action and campaigning on important issues, The Co-operative is taking to the streets of London on Saturday 5 December 2009 for The Wave - the most important day of action on climate change for billions of people around the world.

We’ve teamed up with Oxfam and the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition, organisers of The Wave, to get as many Co-operative Members as possible signed up and travelling to London to help make this the biggest climate change march in history.

The Wave takes place days before the crucial UN climate change talks in Copenhagen. It will send a strong message to world leaders that a safe and fair deal must be agreed in order for dangerous levels of climate change to be avoided. This deal should also protect the world’s poorest who will suffer most from the effects of climate change but have done least to cause it.

People taking part are encouraged to wear blue clothing and bring blue fabric and banners to create a human wave.
Combating climate change is one of the three main campaign strategies run by the Co-operative. To help make The Wave the biggest ever climate change march in the UK, The Co-operative is making it as easy as possible for its members and Oxfam supporters to travel to London on Saturday 5 December.

The march, a family friendly street procession, is approximately 3 miles in length and starts at 1pm in central London. The march will flow through central London towards Westminster. A stunning finale will take place at 3pm as The Wave encircles the Houses of Parliament.

The march is intended as a family fun event with a serious message to make to the Government. Participants are encouraged to wear blue clothing and bring blue fabric and banners to create a human wave.
