Key Speakers

Sanna Atherton, Project Manager, Western Power Distribution (WPD)

Sanna will provide an overview of the change in the nature of customer demand and the impact decentralised generation is having on the network. Sanna will introduce ‘Project Falcon’; an early investment in WPD’s commitment to developing a faster and cheaper connection to facilitate the installation of low carbon technologies.

Bio: Sanna is currently leading one of the UK’s largest smart grid projects, Project FALCON. After previously working in Forensic Science, Telecoms and Finance sectors, Sanna joined the Utilities industry in 2007 where she became a Programme Manager at EON UK. She delivered a number of strategic change projects, most notably mobilising a series of Private Finance Initiatives. In parallel, she also completed an MBA. Sanna joined the Western Power Distribution Future Networks Team in 2010, managing two significant Low Carbon Network bids.

Dave Parish, Project Engineer, Renewable Energy Group, University of Exeter

Dave will provide a ‘risk’ based overview to the importance of Energy Management and its potential importance in establishing a secure energy future for Cornish businesses.

Bio: Dave has spent over 20 years in the manufacturing sector working as both an Engineer and Manager in energy intensive sectors such as aluminium diecasting and plastic injection moulding. Dave currently leads on both the engineering support for UoE Renewable Engineering Research Group and delivery of the Energy Management module whilst continuing to maintain close alliances with local businesses.

Chris Amos, Programme Director, Smart Grids BT

Chris will present how BT has achieved long term reductions in its energy consumption across its business through deployment of range of energy efficiency and energy management interventions.

Bio: Within BT Group Strategy Chris is currently assessing the commercial opportunities in energy related services, covering SME, consumer and commercial/government markets. Before that he led the BT bid within SmartReach; a consortium which won a £600M contract within the GB-wide Smart Metering programme. He has also run a number of innovation delivery programmes working with industry and academia, whilst managing BT’s £500M managed service business with commercial sector clients.

Rob Such, Chief Technology Officer, Wattstor

Recognising the opportunity presented by government indecision in the replacement of national generation and the potential impact of compromised supply, Rob will illustrate the importance of this growing market to SME innovation and the business opportunities it promises.

Bio: Rob is an independent renewable energy consultant and Chief Technology Officer for Wattstor the Cornish company designing and installing energy management and storage solutions. Rob was been involved with several renewable energy startups since 2005 following a successful career in systems design and implementation.

Smart Cornwall Business Development Team

This event is hosted by Cornwall Development Company’s ERDF funded SMART Cornwall Business Development Team which has been established to facilitate the growth of the Smart Energy Market in Cornwall.
