30Oct2011: House & Farm resilience: half-day course

30Oct2011: House & Farm resilience: half-day course

Sunday 30th Oct 2011
Cottage Farm
Open Day

Expected donations: £10/ person, £15/ couple

Having just been selected as a finalists in the national BBC Food & Farming Awards in the sustainable Farmer of the Year category, we are holding one more Open Day this year to show our visitors why and how we live and farm with near zero use of fossil fuels and how they, too, may be able to benefit from lower energy bills.

As part of the National Superhomes scheme (www.Superhomes.org.uk), Cottage Farm will again be opening its doors to the public to explain what we are doing, why and how.

Cottage Farm is an organic sustainable farm raising native breeds and selling produce locally. It is powered by renewable energy with near zero use of fossil fuels, having reduced its carbon emissions by over 100% (as assessed by the Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust) and practicing carbon neutral living and farming. We are also of course actively engaged in the Transition process.

Visitors will be able to see and ask questions about
· the various energy saving steps taken
· the various methods of renewable energy generation employed and its benefits
· the organic farming methods, localised sustainable food production and carbon free distributions of farm produce.
· We may also discuss the Superhomes charity and Transition Movement and its contribution to increasing local resilience in North Cornwall and also our motivations and the prospects for the future.
