Transition Penwith February 2013

Here are some February events which are all about making local connections and moving towards a resilient Penwith. If you're organising anything in the area which fits these criteria then let us know about it and we may be able to include it in future mailings.

Saturdays February 2, 9, 16 and 23; 7:00 for 7:30pm
WI Hall, St Just
Get cosy watching films, drinking lots of tea and eating cake! This year's line-up includes: "The Third Man"; "Goodbye Lenin!"; "A Royal Affair"; Bugsy Malone"; and "The Artist".

Saturday February 3, 11:00am to 3:00pm
Love Lane, Penzance
Current works involve widening the path at the top entrance. Come for as long as you can and help to make this light work for many hands. There are many days when help is welcome but on this particular Saturday West Cornwall Conservation Volunteers will also be on site. Apple pruning and Fruit tree planting are also coming up soon.

Thursday February 7, 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Dolphin Tavern, Quay Street, Penzance TR18 4BD
The Transition Penwith Monthly Social Gathering takes place on the First Thursday of every Month. So if you'd like to meet up with other local people interested and involved in the Transition Movement or just find out what it's all about then do come along to the Dolphin. If you can't make it this month then maybe we'll see you in March!

Sunday February 10
Copperhouse, Hayle
Joint action by the RSPB and West Cornwall Conservation Volunteers.

Sunday February 10 and Saturday February 23, 10:00am to 3:00pm
Crankan near New Mill, Penzance
The owners of this land have adopted a Constitution with the principal aim: 'to hold the land in stewardship for the future by managing it in ecologically sustainable ways that will maintain or increase its biodiversity'. They are carrying out their first full ecology survey, setting up a formal management plan and creating space for new projects that support their overall aim. There are working days twice a month (subject to weather conditions - call to check on 07870 780522 around 9am)

Saturday 16 February, 11:00am to 1:00pm
Men-An-Tol Ancient Site
Contact Rachel Lambert for details.

Sunday February 24, 10:00am to 4:00pm
Millenium Woods, Penzance
Come and see Chris Cook's horse in action, and join the team in activities including coppicing and green woodworking.

We know that a high proportion of our population already have an interest in regenerating local resilience - on a practical as well as an emotional level. If you haven't yet got a copy of Resilient Penwith - our 136 page paperback directory - then get one now. This new handbook is designed to help more people tap into that network and lead them to resources within the local community which can build:

· food security
· energy security
· health security
· financial security

The book is available for £5 + £1 postage from :

or you can buy one at OpenShed (next to the cinema) in Causewayhead, Penzance.
