house power change

From Lucy Kelly, Transition Penwith
------------------------------------------------
Transition could organise together local house refurb(transition) advice sessions as to what is available right now, how much it costs, what grants there are to help people apply for them, get lots of quotes from the many solar thermal/voltaic installers we all collectively know of plus the ones in Thompson's directory/yellow pages etc.

Then get people organising a power co-op/standards to be safe etc.

We need to inform home/house holders, from all social classes, about chimneys/wood-burning stoves/biomass stoves/thermal-stores etc.

We need to show home/house holders successful existing examples of the process in pictures and words.

We also need to communicate the legal parameters for planning as they are at the moment, the cost of planning applications for wind turbines and the likelihood of refusal but then give the examples of locals/others who have
overturned wind turbine refusals and who have them now.

We also need to go through connecting to the grid and how to get payback for generating electricity FOR the national grid.

Ultimately we need to connect people up and create mini community power outlets.

Anyone interested in planning that and starting 2010 the year of "house power change" in Cornwall?

All the best

Anyone interested in active participation, please drop me an email or leave a reply here. Perhaps we can form a North Cornwall group with similar aims and help develop the project.
Good luck
