Zero waste strategy

The core of my personal stand and that of MK - the party for Cornwall, is sustainability.

I intend to support moves to get as close as possible to 'zero waste strategy'. We need to

a) eliminate as much waste as possible from becoming waste in the first place, for example by encouraging people of Cornwall to compost their food and garden waste, reduce the use of plastics by utilising long life shopping bags and refusing to take excessive packaging from retailers premises.

b) sort and separate all remaining waste to extract all metal, plastics, paper, textile and other recyclable materials

and
c) support waste treatment that effectively reduces environmental impact and extracts any available energy from the material, such as anaerobic digestion.

Further more, I will support and encourage the development of effective methods of treating farm waste, such as slurry and muck prior to spreading on farm land. Rudimentary anaerobic digestion directly connected to slurry pits would harvest much of the methane, which is currently allowed to disperse into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming. Burning the methane would produce heat and/or electrical energy for use on the farm or fed into the Grid.

I am of course very willing to consider any other treatments that may help achieve the goal of sustainable waste management in Cornwall.

Best regards
